Dash is looking for his forever home.
Dash is a 5-year-old (almost 6yo) male purebred beagle who was an owner surrender to our rescue recently due to a change in lifestyle. He is neutered, up to date on all of his vaccinations, had a dental cleaning upon intake, and has a history of allergies which has been treated and needs continued monitoring. He weighed 26 pounds upon intake. Dash was reportedly house-trained and crate-trained previously, however he may need reinforcement of this training with the transition into a new home and routine.
His temperament is generally sweet, easy-going, friendly, curious, and cuddly. He is friendly with other dogs with slow introductions, but had lived alone previously and mainly spent time indoors. He gets excited to go outside, is learning to walk well on the leash, and has done well with baths. He has been good with kids in the past, unknown exposure to cats but not recommended. He knows some basic command such as sit, stay, leave it, and come but has never had formal obedience training. Like any beagle, he is highly food motivated and enjoys his food and treats.
Potential adopters must be seriously committed to taking in a rescue beagle, including dedicating the time and patience for his adjustment. Dash deserves someone willing to give him the best life, he is still young and has room to learn and grow with someone willing to give him the chance after all he has been through. Dash needs someone knowledgeable in resource guarding and how to deal with it, and likely no other dogs in the home to minimize an incident as he has demonstrated potential resource guarding. However, he was evaluated by our trainer and shows good potential, so any prospective adopter must be willing to commit to obedience training (recommended: group class or up to 3 individual sessions) to be successful with Dash. Adopters must be located in Southern California.
