Meet Red!
Red is a 10yo male beagle who was rescued from the Downey Shelter as an owner surrender. Red’s video on social media was quite popular, and we knew we needed to help if we could, his howls in the shelter were heartbreaking.
He joined our rescue on May 26th and is currently at our veterinarian for evaluation and treatment. His intake revealed he is severely anemic, has cholangiohepatitis, and requires an iron pill and medicine for his liver. He does not need a blood transfusion yet, but will need follow-up bloodwork in a month. His skin issues are likely due to fleas resulting in severe hair loss. He has masses on his tail and bottom area, but they cannot be surgically removed or biopsied until his liver values/bloodwork improves. He is being treated by our vet and closely monitored until he is cleared medically.
URGENT: We need a foster or medical foster in Orange County for Red ASAP. We do not want to send him to boarding at his senior age and all he has been through. Foster needs to be approved and in Orange County, comfortable with giving baths to Red to help his skin and administering oral medications (pills) as needed. We need the foster to be local so if he needs to return to the vet, we are closeby. We do not know yet if Red is housetrained, crate trained, good with kids, dogs, or cats as we only know him in the shelter and in the hospital. He is a sweet, friendly guy, only 16 pounds. Please apply on the foster application if you can help!
